Social Media Menu Monday (a Recipe Round-Up)

Was there life before google? It’s been my recipe go-to for ages, but it’s only in the past month or so that I’ve started specifically exploring the food-blogosphere. And I’m starting to think that this was maybe not such a good idea, because boy-o! if I read about any more Nutella Cream Cheese Chocolate Cakes then I can pretty much kiss the “Losing It” side of this blog goodbye. (Thanks Baker Street. I think
).
The exciting thing about food bloggers is that once you find some that you love, it’s like having your favourite recipe book author on speed dial. I love being able to tweet someone how much you enjoyed their Ginger Marinated Flank Steak (hi Renee! *waves*), ask questions about ingredients (thanks Donna!), or just knock around ideas for variations.
Of course I collect recipes faster than I can make them (who doesn’t?). But I’ve decided to start at least trying to keep up – by making a list that I think I can manage in a month. The plan: on the first monday of each month, share the last month’s successes and the next month’s must-tries. Here’s this month’s social media-inspired menu:
Tried it, loved it…
Ginger Marinated Flank Steak
We tried this a couple of weeks ago – yum! The marinade did a great job of tenderizing, and gave the meat a tasty glazed outside.
On the menu for June…
Sparkling Watermelon Sangria
You have GOT to check out this recipe, even just to see what the “Secret Ingredient” is. I can’t wait to try it – and it is totally generating spin-off recipe ideas.
Chicken Mango Skewers with Lime Poppy Seed Drizzle
I saw this go by on Twitter and just had to check it out. Love the idea of grilled mango, and lime is one of my favourite flavourings. These just look so summery.
Summer Pasta Salad with Lemon Lime Dressing
Pasta salad – hold the mayo. I really REALLY don’t like mayo. But ζach has become a master pasta-maker, so I’m looking forward to trying this! And I refer you to my earlier comment about limes
.
Mango Swirl Cheesecake
Hello?!? It’s Mango Cheesecake! I think I’ll top it with a raspberry coulis.
Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
I love the banana garnish Lyn uses on the bread – so pretty! And I LOVE banana bread. AND I have a freezer full of bananas (I probably should have made this post a list of banana recipes).
Dark Chocolate Ice Cream
I’m trying to decide whether to buy an ice cream maker, so I’m borrowing one for a couple of weeks. I found this recipe using the Food Bloggers Network Search - I’ve added it to my sidebar if you ever want to use it. And while chatting with Donna, she also suggested her recipe for Browned Butter Ice Cream. Did I mention I love this whole social cooking thing??
Chocolate Lentil Brownies
Yummy Mummy Club isn’t a food blog (name notwithstanding), but Karen is still a food blogger, so the social aspect still holds. And besides, they’re brownies with lentils in them – I get to pretend I’m being healthy and stuff. Brownies for breakfast! Woot!
What are your favourite food-blogger finds?
PS. “Brownies for Breakfast” should be a hashtag. #justsayin
PPS. I’m totally open to suggestions on a new name for these posts. Social Media Menu Monday is a bit of a mouthful. (Pun intended — try to contain your astonishment.)
PPS. Social Media Mouthful. Hmmm…
PPPS. It took a lot of work keeping this list down to 4 6 7. If only I could exercise the same discipline with post-scripts.
PPPPS. Sorry. Couldn’t help myself

Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed the flank steak. It makes me smile to know you had a good meal because of one of my recipes.
Thanks Renee! I’m happy you’re happy
.
Horay for Banana Bread!! Its the reason my freezer started to be filled with bananas in the first place!
Mine too – but I somehow never get around to making it! Loved your recipe though. It will be on next month’s Tried It, Loved It list
. Thanks!
Between my favorite bloggers, Google and Pinterest, who needs cookbooks? So many great ideas, tips, techniques and recipes out there! I find much of my inspiration comes from my fellow bloggers and I like the idea of Social Media Menu Monday. Get an ice cream maker. You won’t be sorry! I’m off to pick-up some flank steak. And ginger. Have a great week!!
Exactly! Although I keep borrowing them from the library anyhow. It’s a sickness, really
. Enjoy your steak! And I’ll bet if you tweet @reneedobbs, that will make her happy
I have a bunch of food blogs on my reader. One I have gone to a few times lately is Emily Bites (.com). Her WW inspired recipes seem good (the few I have tried anyhow) and I like her series on muffin tin food
BTW i made your carrot ginger soup last night. I made it on the stove top and totally improvised (I doubled the liquid after reading a comment you made and I didn’t have yogurt). But it is so yummy! And I even started it by making my own veggy stock. I was impressed at how easy it was! I love ginger so I didn’t even measure, I just chopped up the whole of what I had! HA. YUmm! Thanks!
Neat – I will check that out! I’m thinking that next month’s menu should at least attempt to be healthy, I need to get back on the WW wagon.
So glad you enjoyed the soup! If you like, I can send you the original recipe. It’s from Anne Lindsey’s New Light Cooking (http://ottawa.bibliocommons.com/item/show/169837026_anne_lindsays_new_light_cooking). That’s another recipe book I need to spend some time with again. I seem to recall a really yummy asian chicken noodle soup right next to the carrot ginger.
I think I’ve given away all of my cookbooks except one antique from the 1960s. Have to admit that if I made all the recipes I found online that I wanted to try, I’d never leave my kitchen! Great post…
Hi Margo, thanks for stopping by! I still have a ton of cookbooks, the one time I tried to purge the collection I regretted it. And no matter how many times I declare a moratorium on purchases, more seem to sneak in
